What's So Wrong With Hate Crimes Legislation?
Our ability to share the gospel is about to be legally bound by so-called Hate Crimes legislation. Yet most Christians have no idea there is such a thing, or that similar laws have been used in other countries and States to persecute Christians and silence the Church.
What is so wrong with Hate Crimes Legislation? Aren't those who oppose it just right-wing religious fanatics? Take a closer look.
The federal bill that will likely be voted on Wednesday is called the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act. Currently there are similar laws already in several states. Gay rights advocates trumpet tolerance and equality in pushing for hate crimes and sexual orientation legislation. However, with just a little bit of probing we find that these proposals are anything but tolerant. To place “sexual orientation” in the same class as gender or race is unnecessary and will force discrimination against other groups of people. The largest group that would be adversely affected would be Christians.
Because it takes a stand against homosexuality, the Bible can now be considered hate speech. Welcome to the new era of hate crimes. Similar laws are currently being used to jail pastors, silence the church, and punish Christians in various states and countries. One of the most disturbing aspects of this bill is that it leaves "sexual orientation" open to anyone's interpretation. In fact, an amendment was rejected by the Democrats that would have taken "pedophilia, incest, sexual sadism" off the list of legitimate "sexual orientations."
A crime is a crime. Murder is murder, regardless of the race, religion or sexual orientation of the victim. Homosexuals, and every other class of people, already have equal protection under the law.
