The Danger of the “Speech is Violence” Movement

The Danger of the “Speech is Violence” Movement

Why is Charlie Kirk dead? Why are conservative Christians, churches, and organizations being targeted with violence? The answers are clear and we at Prepare the Way Ministries have been warning the body of Christ for decades that there is a worldview battle raging. This battle in our culture has eternal significance but also deadly consequences on this earth.

When liberals falsely claim that “speech is violence” it actually incites violence. This is at the heart of why Charlie Kirk is dead. Alliance Defending Freedom unpacks this key idea with dozens of examples in our culture. During my court case – over 20 years ago now – even then the death threats were pouring in. We had threats about burning our house down, killing me and my wife and kids, making up accusations so that they could put me in jail. I was assaulted by other teachers and parents on campus. It was insane. Tragically, much of this “speech is violence” movement is originating in our public schools. Christians who are in the public schools must be equipped.

Why are people celebrating Charlie Kirk’s death? They have been deceived by the liberal worldview and resulting talking points including language such as “speech is violence,” “erasing LGBTQs,” “Trans-Genocide” and more, which they use to justify retaliatory violence. We have been warning Christians about the dangers of certain competing worldviews that call for violence against others. Nothing new is under the sun; anti-Christian bigotry rears its ugly, divisive and violent head in a myriad of worldviews, whether it is Marxism, critical theory, critical race theory, heterosexism, queertheory, cisheteropatriarchy, pro-abortion, fundamental Islam, aggressive Mormonism, or others.

So what can we do? Please raise awareness about the “speech is violence” dangers. Share this blog. Get equipped in a Biblical worldview and learn to identify opposing views. Please utilize our worldview resources and have Stephen speak on these topics at your church, organization or group. Do not assume your kids can identify wrong ideas. Sadly many progressive Churches encourage the “speech is violence” narrative and are not rooted in sound teaching (we will address this in a future blog).
