Navigating Public Schools Seminar in Louisville KY
Stephen was honored to be the keynote speaker at a conference last weekend called, “Navigating Our Public Schools.” The conference was organized by the Kentucky Baptist Convention, Crestwood Baptist Church, and Baptist Campus Ministry, located on the University of Louisville campus. The event was held on the secular campus of the University of Louisville. Parents, teachers, students, administrators, and ministry leaders gathered to become better equipped to navigate public schools as Christians. Finn Laursen of the Christian Educators Association International also delivered a terrific talk.
One of the most encouraging aspects of the weekend was hearing testimonies of how the book, Navigating Public Schools, has catalyzed people becoming more involved in campus ministry. One Bible study called Bridge Builders at Crestwood Baptist Church used Navigating Public Schools as a book study, which birthed many public school ministries in the Louisville area. Here are a few examples: a parent started a Mom’s in Prayer group that meets on campus to pray weekly, parents have started prayer walking on campus at several locations, and a mom ran for and got elected to a school site council on curriculum. A professor of Education at a secular university also started to give out the book to any interested Christian teacher going through the teaching credential program resulting in many encouraging testimonies. Ministry leaders from Summit Ministries, Moms in Prayer, Child Evangelism Fellowship/Good News Clubs, Youth for Christ Louisville, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Baptist Campus Ministries, Twelve24, First Priority of America and others participated in the event. It was such an encouragement to see Christians from different ministries and churches gather to work together to equip the body of Christ.
