Bernie Sanders, Liberalism, and Anti-Christian Bigotry

There is a mounting anti-Christian bigotry that is tolerated in our current cultural and political climate, clearly displayed this week in Washington. Recently, Bernie Sanders un-Constitutionally imposed an anti-Christian religious test when grilling Russell Vought about his nomination to the Office of Management and Budget. Vought is an evangelical Christian who simply believes in the core tenets of the Christian faith. In defending the statement of faith of his alma mater, Wheaton College, Vought wrote about the centrality of Christ to salvation. Sanders took Vought’s defense of Wheaton College out of context, and then verbally attacked him in the hearing. In the end, Sanders said he couldn’t vote for Vought because of his Christian faith.

Sadly, we see this trend of intolerance towards Christianity increasing in this nation. Liberals are becoming increasingly critical of those who profess Biblical Christianity and are seeking to eradicate Christians from positions of influence in our culture. Now, more than ever, we need to pray for wisdom as we stand firm as the body of Christ and speak the truth in love.

David French of National Review writes, “This is a disgraceful and unconstitutional line of questioning from the man who came close to being the Democratic nominee for president. He’s not only imposing a religious test for public office in direct violation of Article VI of the United States Constitution, he’s gone so far as to label this decent man — who’s seeking to serve his country in a vital role — as ‘not someone who this country is supposed to be about.'”
