Many Believers often ask, “Are all Christians called to vote?”
One of the greatest theologians of our day, Dr. Wayne Grudem, said in Why Christians Should Influence Government for Good, “Therefore all citizens who are old enough to vote have a responsibility before God to know what God expects of civil government and what kind of moral and legal standards he wants government to follow. But how can citizens learn what kind of government God is seeking? They can learn this only if churches teach about government and politics from the Bible.”
Founding father, Samuel Adams (1781), said, “Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote… that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country.”
And most importantly, Proverbs 29:2, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked rule, the people groan.” And 1 Timothy 2:1-2 says, “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.“
In this Constitutional Republic of the United States, God has given us the privilege of voting for our representatives “in high positions” so that we can live a peaceful and Godly life as we share the hope of the Gospel with those in our spheres of influence. We have a God-given duty to vote for people who are most in alignment with a Biblical worldview.
